Jane Austen House Museum

Last week we had our half term break which meant a week off of teaching so decided to plan a weekend getaway for Katy's birthday/our break. We rented a car and travelled to Bath for two night and saw a few things on the way. Katy's boyfriend was here for the week so he offered to drive us as we were a little apprehensive to drive on the other side of the road. It took a bit of getting used to, especially with all of the traffic circles but we managed to get around! Katy wanted to go to the Jane Austen House Museum in Chawton as it was somewhat on the way to Bath, so the four of us went there. While Katy was excited, the rest of us all weren't expecting much but we actually had a really great day. Chawton is exactly what I pictured the English countryside to look like, it was a small and quiet town where the houses were little cottages covered in vines. It was even more breathtaking in the fall, my favourite season.

After touring around the museum we went to a little cafe across the road called Cassandra's Cup where we had some lunch and each got a scone which was delicious. Next we decided to go for a short walk and followed a path which led to some horses and gorgeous scenery.

Before we booked anything for our trip, we were unsure if we should just take a bus to Bath or if we should spend a little more and drive - I am so glad that we decided to drive as driving gave us a lot more freedom in that we wouldn't have been able to stop at some of the cute towns when passing by. It was hard to leave Chawton as it was just so adorable, but we were looking forward to exploring Bath.
